Self-doubt, that self-disqualifying mentality is the greatest obstacle
to personal success and achievement. God called Moses to go tell the Pharaoh "set my people free."
Moses immediately said to God, in effect : "You're mistaken. I can't speak
eloquently. Send my brother, Aaron. He is a better communicator.
He's a preacher. He's been for many years. Send him, not me. I
stammer. I am of uncircumcised lips." (Exodus 6: 28 -30)
The good book tells us that "Suddenly," Paul was transformed from
persecutor to advocate of Christianity. My take is that Paul's conversion may have happened on
the road to Damascus, but the call came way before then. For many years God called on Saul to
come to Him, to preach and proclaim
the word of God. He refused. Saul's persecution of
Christians was a psychological denial of the call. It was self doubt, that "it can't be
me" posture, that refusal to ascend to our true position in life. Part of
him denying that call was to turn to those things, evil things, that would in
his mind disqualify him. He maltreated Christians.
The job you always wanted. You are good enough. The woman you
always lusted after. You are good enough. Your dreams are within your
reach if you believe in yourself. That much I learned. A.
