I
learned that performance is good, but that performance is not necessarily
the key to happiness. Acceptance is. Accepting who you are, as you
are, but more than anything else accepting God's unconditional love and
mercy. We don't get to be happy by doing good, though that is
good in itself; true happiness comes from receiving God's love and grace.
I learned that life is short, that time is fleeting, and
that the only constant is change. I learned that we do not spend
time enough on the three Fs - Friends, Family and Faith.
I learned that we can die before we actually die, when
we let our dreams go, our health wane, and violate our guiding principles.
I learned that more often than not we worship the
wrong gods. We lose our way so many times, and so often. I
learned that we can be impatient, sometimes too impatient to seek and find
the real truths of life. Just as the Israelites turned on Moses
during the exodus and embraced idolatry and perversion, so too we
indulge in the wrong passions - overwork, excessive pursuit of material
wealth, and wanton lust, to the exclusion of the sacred truth - the real
God.
I learned not to believe in princes. No prince is going
to rescue you from your failures, from yourself. No one is
infallible. Find the prince in you. Find the prince in your
strengths, down deep inside of you. Find the prince in your
innermost thoughts, through insights into and accepting instructions from
the Higher Power.
I learned that continuous improvement is good. You
must continually sharpen the saw, get better at what you do, but every now
and then you must reboot, tear and rebuild. CTRL + ALT + DEL..
You must re-invigorate yourself, re-invest and re-invent. Jesus tore
down the fig tree that bore no fruit.
I learned that it is never too late to try. Try,
and try again. You must dare to play. Dare!! You cannot afford
to sit on the sidelines. Failure is assured when you don't
try. You must get involved. That much I learned -
