This Much I Learned

Loving is basic; the desire to do right is basic and inherent in every human being. I believe the desire to be free, to be happy, to be better today than yesterday is basic, even intrinsic to the human experience. I believe however there is a gulf, a wide chasm, if you will, between desire and actual performance, between hopes and reality, between wanting to do the right thing and actually doing the right thing.  That's where the will comes into play. Will has to force our actions and reactions to follow the dictates of our conscience and our highest ideals. We cannot and should not allow the tempest and temptations of time to cloud or distort the definition of who we are or want to be.  In short, we cannot allow others or circumstances or fleeting fads to rent space in our head. That much I learned.
